Do’s and Don’ts of The Recipe

Here are some strict instructions for you. If you want the best result from this recipe, you must follow these instructions carefully.

  • First of all, this is a completely frying recipe. To get the best result, consistently stirring the beans and seasoning ingredients helps to prevent burning and ensures that all the beans are evenly cooked and coated.
  • Salt and sugar consumption varies from person to person. That’s why I am keeping this up to you. Taste the dish during cooking and feel free to adjust the salt and sugar to suit your preference.
  • Avoid stir-frying the beans for too long in the first step. Frying for more than 5 minutes can make them soggy instead of crisp and tender.
  • Adding garlic and other seasoning ingredients before the oil is sufficiently hot can cause them to burn and turn bitter.

FAQs

Questions are asked to get an answer and clear confusion. If you have any confusion about this recipe, then here are some questions and their answers to clear your confusion.

What can I substitute for Sichuan Peppercorn if I can’t find it?

Sichuan peppercorns are not so common ingredients. So, if it is unavailable, you can substitute them with black peppercorns, although the flavor will differ. Sichuan peppercorns give a unique numbing sensation that regular pepper cannot replicate.

Is this dish very spicy due to the dried peppers?

The dried peppers add some heat, but it’s manageable. You can reduce the number of dried peppers or remove the seeds inside them to reduce the spice level. If you prefer no heat, simply omit them.

Can I add other vegetables to this dish?

Though this is a recipe for string beans, yes, you can add other quick-cooking vegetables like bell peppers or carrots. However, keep in mind that adding more vegetables may require additional seasoning to balance the flavors.

Last Lines

After finishing the recipe, you might be concerned about the spiciness, considering the 12 dried peppers I used in this recipe. However, the true heat is inside the peppers, so it won’t be spicy unless you break them open.
