Step 1: Prepare the Fish

Clean and dry two Crucian carp fish first. Heat a frypan over medium heat and pour in 1 cup of edible oil. Carefully place the fish in the hot oil in the pan. Fry the fish on both sides until they turn a golden brown color. Also, ensure that they are evenly cooked and slightly crispy on the outside.

Step 2: Break the Fish Apart

Now gently break the fish apart into smaller pieces using a non-stick spoon and add sliced ginger and scallions in the same pan. Sauté them with the broken fish pieces for a minute or two.
Step 3: Simmer the Soup

In this step, you need to pour 750ml of boiling water into the pan. The water should cover the fish and other ingredients. Increase the heat to medium-high and continue cooking until the water turns a milky white color. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
Step 4: Filter the Broth

Now carefully pour it through a kitchen filter into a bowl. This will remove the fish bones and any large pieces of ginger or scallion. Return the filtered broth to the frypan.
Now add the tofu cubes, vegetables of your choice, and seafood mushrooms. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
Step 5: Season the Soup

In this part, you need to season the soup. I used salt, ground pepper, and goji berries. You can add other seasonings. Now stir everything together in lower heat and let the soup cook on low heat for an additional 2 minutes. Now the Chinese Fish Soup is ready to serve.

Do’s and Don’ts
There are some strict points about this recipe where you should not compromise. I am mentioning these points here.
- Avoid overcooking the fish: Overcooking will make the fish tough, which won’t blend well with the soup.
- Use seasoning sparingly: Too much seasoning can overpower the soup’s flavor and make it too spicy.
- Ingredient flexibility: You can substitute ingredients like seafood mushrooms, goji berries, and vegetables, so don’t worry if you don’t have them on hand.
- Remove all fish bones: Ensure all fish bones are removed to avoid any risk of injury, as they can pose a choking hazard.
