The beef patty and egg in this burger are the sources of a good amount of protein. You also get a lot of fat, almost half of which is unsaturated fat. However, the amount of dietary fiber in this burger is too low. You can increase the percentage of fiber by adding lettuce to the burger.
A concerning thing about this burger is its cholesterol and sodium content. Eating foods with high cholesterol and sodium isn’t good for your health in the long run. Where the daily need for sodium is 2300mg, this burger alone provides more than 1400mg. So, you should be careful about other sodium intakes.
Do’s and Don’ts of the Recipe
Here are some tips from my experience to make the recipe easier.
Do’s
- Grill the burger buns to make them a bit crispier.
- Put some cheese on the burger patties one minute before taking them out. Cover them with a lid so that the cheese melts quickly.
Don’ts
- Don’t make the patties too thin or they will dry out faster.
- Don’t fry the egg for too long. Otherwise, the yolk will be hard. You want a slightly runny yolk that will ooze out when you press the buns.
Can I Make the Patties with Other Types of Meat?
Of course. You can use ground pork, chicken, or venison to make this burger. The seasoning will almost be the same for all types of meat. Just remember one thing about making patties. You should use a combination of 80% meat and 20% fat.
The fat works as a binding agent to keep the patty together. It also enhances the flavor of the burger and makes it juicier. But, don’t add a lot of fat.
How Do I Know If the Patties Are Cooked Properly?
If the patties are about three-quarters of an inch thick, they will take a total of 8 minutes to cook. You can adjust the cooking time by making the patties thicker or thinner. When you place the patties on the pan, make sure the pan is hot enough and you hear that sizzling sound.
Start counting time from that moment and don’t touch the patties until they are cooked for about three and a half minutes. Then, you can turn the patties and check if they are seared properly.
What Can I Serve As a Side With This Egg Burger?
French fry or potato wedges go well with this juicy burger. You can also serve this burger with a honey mustard sauce. Dipping the burger into the honey mustard sauce multiplies the pleasure of eating it.
Cheese dips are also great to go with burgers. You can make a cheese dip from cheeses that melt well, such as mozzarella, provolone, or gruyere cheese.
Can I Make the Burger Patties Ahead of Time and Store Them?
Of course. You can make burger patties in large quantities and put them in the freeze. When necessary, take them out and fry them for about 10-12 minutes so that they are properly cooked on the inside.
The best storage tip I can give is to freeze the patties on a large tray first and then wrap them in cling film so that it is easier to use them later.
Conclusion
In my opinion, the addition of egg to a regular beef burger elevates not only the size but also the flavor and texture of the burger. It also increases the nutritional value as eggs contain a lot of protein and vitamins. So, you can make this egg burger pretty often for when you need the most energy.
